IT Strategy and Governance

IT Strategy and Governance

IT STRATEGY AND GOVERNANCE

Two of the top three expectations for CIOs are aligning to business strategy and transforming business processes. Most IT departments lack the skills to develop a strategic plan for IT: a staggering 84% of IT departments surveyed claim their IT strategies are less than adequate. At the same time, many organizations do not have a governance framework in place that optimally aligns IT with the business objectives and direction. A well-crafted IT strategy and IT Governance framework are critical for enhancing business stakeholder satisfaction and building relationships with business stakeholders.

IT Strategy

Everything IT does should support the business. A list of projects is not a strategic plan. A good strategy links IT initiatives to business goals and builds the roadmap for getting there. Business stakeholders drive the needs, but they cannot translate how IT initiatives help achieve their objectives. IT needs to provide a concise way for stakeholders to digest how IT initiatives support the goals of the  organization.

Our IT Strategy Development Framework will help you:
  • Derive the IT strategy and implications based on the business context.
  • Clearly communicate to business executives how IT will support the organization’s key objectives and initiatives.
  • Develop a prioritization matrix to help make project decisions in a holistic manner that allows for the selection of the most valuable initiatives to become part of the IT strategic roadmap.
  • Demonstrate to business executives, stakeholders and the IT organization how the IT strategy was developed.

IT Governance

IT governance is the number-one predictor of value generated by IT, yet many organizations struggle to organize their governance effectively. In many instances, organizations do not have a governance framework in place that optimally aligns IT with the business objectives and direction. Furthermore, implementing IT governance requires the involvement of key business stakeholders who do not see IT’s value in corporate governance and strategy. Our client-tested methodology supports the enablement of IT-business alignment, decreases decision-making cycle times and increases IT’s transparency and effectiveness in decisions around benefits realization, risks and resources.

Successful completion of the IT Governance redesign will result in the following outcomes:
  • Aligned IT roadmaps with the business context
  • Redesigned IT decision and governance framework
  • Improved stakeholder management
  • Increased compliance, reduced risks

Program
Overview

In this capacity, we engage in a 60-minute virtual meeting every two-three weeks across six months for a total of 12 sessions. At the beginning of the program, the IT Executive has the option to partake in a 360-degree assessment to understand employee feedback on their effectiveness and how they are perceived. We utilize a multi-rater assessment process that provides a snapshot of their character, substance and style for development in executive presence, as observed by their manager, peers, direct reports and others within their firm. We draw upon knowledge and insights gained from that review to elevate individual performance and how they are viewed by their leadership, stakeholders and team.
